We also wouldn't be at all surprised to see a similarly long-awaited new Instax Wide camera appearing. According to The New Camera, the X-Pro 3 will likely have a 26.1-megapixel X-Trans sensor paired with the X-Processor 4 Pro with a Quad Core CPU (the same CPU found in the Fujifilm X-T3 and GFX 100). We've got the X-H2S already, but we hear that a 40MP X-H2 is coming too. With Fujifilm having meaningfully expanded the medium format GFX line last year, while only giving its APS-C X cameras a light refresh, 2022 is all about the fifth generation of X-mount cameras. Looking over release dates and release order after todays X-E4 release and its specifications, I wondered if Fujifilm might be working on a new sensor and processor, what camera might get the next generation sensor/proc combination and thought an X-Pro4 might be in early development. Could a new Instax Wide be on the horizon this year? It certainly makes sense.
However, the launch of the Instax Link Wide (opens in new tab) printer in 2021 along with new black-bordered film shows that Fujifilm is taking a renewed interest in the line. The Instax Wide 300 was launched back in 2015 and, aside from a Toffee-colored paintjob (above) released in 2020, there hasn't been a new Wide camera in well over half a decade.
Fujifilm has released a video celebrating 10 years of the X system, announcing the start of the selection process or the GFX Challenge Grant Program 2021, and a new ‘Reflections’ video project for 2022. While Fujifilm has constantly updated its Instax Mini line, its (literally) bigger brother has barely received any attention at all. Fujifilm video does not disclose the models, but there’s widespread speculation they will include a new X-H2.
